Global Soul Food from the Pacific

October 29th, 2007

Sugarlicks Records have sent us some exciting new music from New Zealand, including a few tracks from the young soul singer Brother J. The label calls his debut album

"a snapshot of urban Maori life with all [its] trials, tribulations, and heartbreaks." We'll just call it amazing.

For more detailed praise, a couple RECs will say it all:

Play Button What Have We Got? (

)

Another Kiwi funk invasion, as if the samba had kissed the shore of the islands... something quite retro" [rec by sable6]

Play Button Kui Lee (

)

Not as falsetto, but this song reminds me of Robin Thicke on some of his more laid back tracks...I want more of Brother J!!!" [rec by thedrakester]

We do too! But this'll do just fine for now.
