Free The Children
November 7th, 2006
A
HUGE welcome to Free the Children, our first benefit campaign
partners! 100% of the sales of any songs in the benefit tracks list
on the home page go straight to Free the Children as Amie Street
begins our first social awareness campaign. Free The Children is
the world's largest network of children helping children through
education, with more than one million youth involved in their
innovative education programs in more than 45 countries. Founded by
the international child rights activist Craig Kielburger, Free The
Children is a unique youth-driven charity that addresses the
primary root causes of poverty and exploitation: lack of access to
education. Through the voices and actions of young people, Free The
Children has built over 450 schools which provide education to
40,000 children daily. Free The Children has shipped over 200,000
school and health kits to children in need and has directly
provided heath care services to over 500,000 people in Africa,
Latin America and Asia, by building health care centers and
distributing essential medical supplies. Free The Children has been
nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize and has partnered
with the United Nations, Oprah's Angel Network, and Archbishop
Desmond Tutu, and has also been profiled by CNN, 60 Minutes, The
New York Times, The London Herald, TIME Magazine, and the
Economist.
I have been actively involved in Free the Children since the late 1990s. I have traveled with the organization to volunteer in community projects in India and Thailand. I also participated in fundraising for school and health kits to be sent to Free The Children communities overseas.
