Brand New Album from Percee P
Holdin' a mic since 10 years old, Percee P clocks in as one of the most prolific MC's who's never recorded a solo album... until now. Signed over 3 years ago after meeting his future label exec's, Egon and Peanut Butter Wolf while slangin' CD's outside of Fatbeats N.Y., Percee took his time to make sure his solo debut was everything it should be for an MC with legendary status.
Percee P is one of the most important rappers to never get his due. His style has been cited as a major influence on the likes of Pharoah Monch (that's him on the 'Lung Collapsing Lyrics' intro) and basically all of DITC (via Lord Finesse, who he battled in '89). He's cut records with everyone from Kane & Kool Keith to Aesop Rock & Jurassic 5 and out-shined just about all of them. That's his voice on DJ Shadow's 'Napalm Brain, Scatter Brain'. I could go on... In short, aside from Big Daddy Kane, he's the illest quote unquote fast rapper to ever touch the mic. But because he's only recorded about 18 verses in as many years, not a lot of heads know what's up." [www.cocaineblunts.com]
So don't feel bad if you don't know Percee yet, just hit play on
No Time For Jokes
and get acquainted. There's your old friend
Chali 2na on the track to make you feel at home with that familiar
baritone and yes -- that is in fact a Madlib production. Though
Percee's recordings have been few and far between, his freestyles
can be found on bootleg cassette recordings of some of the most
important NY radio shows ever, including the hugely influential
Stretch & Bobbito. Some of the other guest spots on
this album are nothing short of Hip-hop royalty. Exhibit A: Diamond
D's phenomenal opening flow on
2 Brothers From The Gutter
and Exhibit B:
Prince Po's rapid-fire attack on
Last Of The Greats
. It's not just
about the guest appearances, however, there's also the rugged yet
smooth
Ghetto Rhyme Stories
and the swing/sub-rattlin' bass of
Who With Me?
which features a chorus reminiscent of a classic Dr.
Dre cut. Once again it's Stonesthrow holdin it down!
