Christopher
Rye's newest release is one of my favorite finds in recent
memory. The title track,
WarMonkey
, is a not-so-subtle
jab at a certain world leader, but it's the other three tracks that
make this a must-have.
Jill Draper lends passionate, strong vocals to
Swim to Me (feat. Jill Draper)
, while the pitch-skewed vocals on
You Send Me
and
Don't Take Me Downtown
sound like the best songs
David Bowie wasn't performing in the mid-Nineties.
Rye is talented enough to not have any truly obvious musical
influences, and brilliant enough to take the ones that might be
obvious and imbue them with something personal and new. Check out
this EP, stat!
