If you've ever had the chance to meet Chachi Carvalho, you
certainly would remember it. His positivity is contagious and his
words are genuine, feelings that come through clearly in his
music.
And, not only is Chachi a talented artist making a name for
himself in the North East hip hop community (check out his music), he's also giving
back to his community by creating the Progressive Youth Creative
Arts Workshop. His workshop is designed to help kids get involved
in all aspects of the music industry, from song writing to music
and album promotion, and is now endowed by our friends at Eclipse
gum.
Chachi created Beat Box Studio in his hometown of Providence,
RI, which is where he drops his gems and, with support from Eclipse
gum, where he'll be working with local youth to build their self
esteem and find their passion through music.
If you want to learn more about Beat Box Studio or the
Progressive Youth Creative Arts Workshop, please get in
touch with Chachi -- he'd love to hear from you.
And stay tuned for more news on how Eclipse gum is helping you
to discover great new music and connect with the artists you
love!

With the
help of our friends at meebo, Gary Gunn spoke with Amie
Street members tonight at 8 PM EST. Gary is a talented musician and
producer, and Amie Street is lucky to have his music and
support.
Definitely listen to the album Brained Off
Drugs by Waterlog, which he played on and produced, and to
a staff favorite
The Onion (Original)
, and make sure you come by and
say what's up to Gunn. He has worked with multiple musicians on
Amie Street, including some for his current project coming out this
spring.
DC born & raised, Gunn has been making music ever since he
can remember, and now plays too many instruments to name. He is
influenced by "music that is honest," and works mostly from his
"studio in NYC that has bugged out gadgets and instruments."
He graduated with honors from Howard University's Business
School, during which time he signed with Grammy winning producer
Mahogany (Jay Z's "It's Alright") as a musician/producer and
collaborated with artists like Dr. Dre, Knocturnal, Nas, &
M.O.P; most notably, Dr. Dre's "Bad Intentions" for the "Wash"
Soundtrack, which later became Jay Z's "Super Ugly" beat firing at
Nas. Gunn also sat in on sessions with producers Demien Desandes
(Carl Thomas), Ge-ology (Blackstar, Mos Def), Doc (Res, Esthero)
and many others in NYC.

On a snowy
night in New York City, at Rockwood Music Hall, Seth Kallen was
playing
My Sweet Darling (ft. Melody Gardot)
when he noticed Norah Jones walk in the
door. After he finished his set she came up to him and said, "I
really like that song 'My Sweet Darling'."
The "perfect little movie story," as Seth described it, is also a
testament to his talent and his striking voice. But
Seth Kallen & The
Reaction are no prima donnas - they are about having fun and
enjoying the music.
"The whole vibe about our band is the live show. We're not the dark
introverted rock stars who are trying to be cooler than everyone in
the audience. We always have our musician friends come up and play.
We go for the rock n' roll party. We have harmonica players, horn
sections, and people dancing. We smile and have fun on
stage."
Seth Kallen & The Reaction was one of the first bands to put
their music up on Amie Street. And even with all the new music
flooding Amie Street everyday their album
Exhibit
A continues to be a fan favorite, with songs like
Shiver
and
In the Bright Lights
as well as My Sweet Darling
garnering the most recommendations.
Our thanks to Seth Kallen & The Reaction for supporting Amie
Street from Day 1.

Here is
Malene Younglao, an international
citizen who has come to Amie Street with her own sound. Born in
Trinidad & Tobago, living in both San Fernando and Brooklyn
until she was 11, she never could confine herself to any one genre
of music. Her album Live at Monster Island
is a reflection of the many cultures that make up her life and her
musical versatility - most wouldn't expect a blues song like
Addicted
and a hardcore punk-rock song like
Rebel Radio
to come from the same artist, much less the same album.
Perhaps Malene's talent is best expressed on stage, where she
has played with artists like Lauryn Hill and Ludacris, and is known
for giving killer performances. (Watch out for an Amie Street
Showcase in October featuring Malene...it's coming). When asked
about her live shows and her preparation for them, she had this to
say:
"Before I go on stage I take a shot of good rum. Usually spiced
rum. And then I pray. I think everybody does something well. We are
all conductors of energy. We are all built differently so we all
channel energy differently. So when I get on stage I've learned to
be a receiver of what energy there is and project it back to the
audience. I allow it to pass through me."
