Artist Spotlight: Soulfire

January 30th, 2008
Soulfire

South African acoustic duo Soulfire have just re-released their debut album on Amie Street, making it available for the first time to an international audience! Soulfire's laid-back, soulful rock has won them a loyal fan base in South Africa and abroad with their easy and accessible sound, combining influences from Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Damien Rice and Iron & Wine with those of Neil Young, Paul Simon and James Taylor.

Formed around a fire one night in the mountains outside their hometown of Cape Town, Soulfire remains true to its roots, avoiding heavy production work in favor of letting strong songwriting shine through. The result is a beautiful album combining intimacy, loss and learning with a positive, feel-good outlook.

The smash single Play Button Live My Life is a summer anthem focusing on making positive choices; it has become a radio favorite in South Africa and topped download charts around the world. The darker, more brooding Play Button Rwanda is a mournful look at the genocide in the African country and the challenge of reconciliation that lies ahead.

Check out the self-titled album and let them know what you think in your RECs!
