Artist Spotlight: A Band Called Pain

A Band Called Pain wants you to run through their wicked garden.
An "old-fashioned, all-black grunge outfit" from the Bay Area, ABCP have been featured on the Saw II soundtrack and Dane Cook's HBO special, and most recently opened for Buckcherry and The Smashing Pumpkins in Indianapolis.
While it's certainly unexpected to see four African-American men behind this kind of music -- "it's like we're the Eminem of the rock world!" says the bassist -- the members of A Band Called pain share a passion for hard rock, and it shows in their debut album,
"We could have easily gone down the hip-hop or R&B route, and each of us at one time or another has given it a shot," says guitarist and songwriter Shaun Bivens. "We could be making raps about growing up in the hood and gang violence, but that's just not who we are. We're four guys who grew up loving heavy metal, so that's what we play. For us, it is the song that matters most."
