Happy Holidays!

December 23rd, 2006

We hope everyone is avoiding the endless check-out lines and traffic, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the last days of 2006.

For your listening pleasure, here are two of our favorite Christmas songs. We hope these tracks make the rotation along with the old standards.

First is a new track by Middle Distance Runner, whose album Plane In Flames has been getting some "Top Album of the Year" nods from places like Instrumental Analysis. The track is Play Button XMAS PARTY and don't wait to buy and REC it.

Second is Play Button The Christmas Song by Adam Arcuragi from his critically acclaimed, self-titled album. Again, don't wait to buy and REC this great song.

Enjoy the holidays and 2006 while it lasts!

Amie Street Showcase at NYC’s Famous Arlene’s Grocery

December 13th, 2006

Arlene's GroceryAmie Street is proud to present its fourth installment of its Showcases series. This Friday, December 15th, from 7:00pm - 8:30pm, Amie Street favorites Rob Drabkin and Morgan Rogers will play Arlene's Grocery (95 Stanton Street, NYC) . For those unfamiliar with Rob Drabkin's music, you got to check out Play Button Sweet Things and Play Button The Way You Look Tonight - two great songs which illustrate Rob's sick guitar skills and sultry voice. For the Dave Matthews fans out there, be sure not to miss this. Rob is currently on tour with Tim Reynolds.

And for fans of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and any man who can play a harmonica, we have Morgan Rogers; a timeless Amie Street artist who is best exemplified by his tracks Play Button Backwards and Play Button Drunken Words . Both songs exist as true throw-backs to the glory days of acoustic rock in the 60s and 70s. The show begins at 7:00pm and ends at 8:30pm. Despite featuring two artists, tickets are only $10 (a great deal). See you then.

Join The Mystic Underground

December 12th, 2006

Visit The Mystic Underground's Music StoreAccording to Sonic Slang, "The Mystic Underground's retro, brit pop sound is influenced perhaps most heavily by synth acts like Erasure and very early Depeche Mode. Lead singer/songwriter Vladimir Valette's vocals, in particular, evoke the heyday of the former while Benedetto Socci lays down pulsing, hit-worthy beats."

Obscure Sound had this to say about The Mystic Underground: "My favorite song at the moment from them is Play Button Athletes , which appears to be an obvious destined single...As the song gains momentum and the chorus explodes into a frenzy, Valette appears to be talking growing up in general: 'the talk of the town and the boys' bathroom walls,' 'the stories spun in the gym, they circulate through the school, and now we're scarred for life.' The topic is widely recognizable and the song is very memorable and catchy."

On the Prowl with The Jaguar Club

December 9th, 2006
Wednesday night at NYC's The Annex, Amie Street enjoyed a blue-ribbon set by The Jaguar Club. Out of Brooklyn, this Pop/Indie trio comes with a dangerously danceable sound that's especially evident on a song like Play Button The Sirens . The four tracks from their self-titled EP have made a splash on Amie Street by collecting 40+ RECs in no time at all. The Jaguar Club is Jeremiah on drums and vocals, Yoichiro on bass, and Will on guitar and vocals. Look for them at Fat Baby on December 16th and don't forget to buy and REC 'em! The Budos Band Is Dap-tastic!

December 6th, 2006

Visit The Budos Band's Music StoreThe Budos Band is another hot group from the unparalleled Funk/Soul label Daptone Records.

plasticaisle says: "I saw this band with Sharon Jones earlier in the year and they were GREAT. The basslines alone were worth the price of admission. They had everyone's legs wiggling and wobbling...If you haven't anything fun to do, you will have a great time seeing them, rest assured. Three percussionists should be the norm, if you ask me."

Three-Sixty-Five45s says: "Start to finish, this is probably the best new funk release I have heard in 2006.

"On the back of the CD they describe their sound as 'afro-soul', and that seems a very apt description. There is plenty of percussion and they are heavy on the horns throughout (just check their version of Play Button Sing a Simple Song ), yet do a great job of mixing up the feel of the songs. Some tunes are dark and heavy like the flute-led Play Button King Charles , while Play Button Monkey See, Monkey Do has a laid-back, almost latin feel to it. Then there's the explosive Play Button Budos Theme that is one for the dancefloor.

"For me the standout track is Play Button Eastbound , with the solid groove, a guitar that is stripped down and yet has some 'wah', the almighty horns, and a phenomenal bit of flute and trumpet playing. But when followed by an organ-funk track like Play Button Aynotchesh Yererfu , it's hard to pick the top track. Do yourself a favor and get The Budos Band on your turntable or in your CD player."

How about on your iPod folks? Show The Budos Band some love!

The Very Danceable Utah Rangers

December 6th, 2006

Visit The Utah Rangers' Music StoreThe Utah Rangers are new to Amie Street so give 'em a listen. Here's what BiBaBiDi had to say about the band: "Whatever the hell Utah Rangers means, I don't care ... this duo is ace. They're indie-pop, yeah, but there such a rush their music; such a happy, dancey feel to it. I can't resist. Imagine a peppier version of Envelopes or something. And those bass lines work oh-so-well with those excellent jangle-pop guitar riffs and perfect hooks."

Have a listen and start with Play Button Cracking up my heart and Play Button One reason to go to spain .

Lush Progress

December 4th, 2006
Visit Lush Progress' Music StoreThese guys sound like space-rock hippies adrift on a sea where sunny acoustic guitars and melodies peak from behind clouds of ambient keyboards and electronic textures. Well.... we've never met Lush Progress so maybe they aren't hippies, but you can put the rest of that illustration to test with Play Button Laying Eggs , or one of the seven other tunes they've uploaded. Regardless of exactly what it is they're doing it's undeniably interesting, with song structures that are sometimes more like free ranging excursions than easily grasped structures. On the other end of the spectrum there's Play Button Three Long Nights that despite some less than conventional chord changes and slightly bizarre harmonies may as well be a pop song with a hypnotic instrumental jam at the end. Be sure to listen to the textures in each song. Play Button While , in particular shows off how good this band can be at putting just the right sounds together.
