Interview: Ungdomskulen

Today we're posting the first in a series of offbeat interviews done by the folks at Uncensored Interview, a group whose mission is to give us "a voyeuristic glimpse into the indie music world." Check out their session with Ungdomskulen, the manic Norwegian prog-punkers who discuss what's in a name, the best local sheep stew, and a couple tips for "safe living," all after the break!

Party Time, Excellent!!

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July everyone! As we like to do on holidays, we've put together a little playlist to mark the occasion. Like the delicious Hebrew National hot dogs we will be enjoying shortly, our MP3s are 100% fresh and free of impurities (like DRM); that's the Amie Difference™. Find the full playlist after the jump, and have a great day!

Album Spotlight: Two Loons For Tea

Sarathan Records' Two Loons For Tea dish up a mix of warm vocals and deep electronica similar to Massive Attack and Mazzy Star, and while longtime readers should be well-acquainted with their most recent release, their sophomore album Looking For Landmarks is a feat of its own.

Album Spotlight: Jukebox the Ghost

While millions of musicians spend their lives aspiring to be compared -- just once! -- to bohemian rockers Queen and piano pop legend Elton John, Jukebox the Ghost achieved such recognition in a debut album. We can only assume there's more fun and infectiously clever music to come.

Ed Rec Vol. III features new tracks from the French electro label Ed Banger's biggest artists, including Justice, DJ Mehdi, Uffie, SebastiAn, and more! What else can we say but RRREC'D!

Artist Spotlight: Memo

Last year, two-man British alternative band Memo was voted "Best Contemporary Artist" by the Torbay ArtsBase, a forum for promoting literature, arts, and music around the Torbay area (southwest UK). This year they've added a drummer and bassist and are working hard on new material as a full band, adding their debut EP to Amie Street in anticipation of their upcoming full-length!

Album Spotlight: Belle & Sebastian

2003's Dear Catastrophe Waitress is considered by many to be Belle & Sebastian at their best. With a tune featured in everyone's favorite film Juno and a wealth of other indie pop gems, this is one to add to your collection if you haven't already.

Album Spotlight: The Format

The Format, a five-piece from Phoenix, Arizona, breaks the mold when it comes to power pop successes. Unfazed after being dropped by Atlantic in 2005, the guys self-released their second album Dog Problems to wide critical acclaim.

Artist Spotlight: Karla Margallo

Insatiable good looks, good lines and good lungs are some of Karla Margallo's most obvious qualities, but it's the fact that she handled all writing and production duties on her debut album that sets this pop singer-songwriter apart from the pack.
