Morris is R&B's/Neo Soul/Pop answer for the Music Industry. He is a deft storyteller crooning in a smooth falsetto about everything from lovemaking to the internet using crossing over genres with a combination of folk, modern pop and soul. He is a bohemian hippy with a raw neo classic soul sexiness. People have compared his vocal range to Maxwell, his electrifying dance moves to Prince, and his rock star apparel to Lenny Kravitz. But his music is universal.
Born the 5th of 7 children to a single-parent household in a sleepy community called Greenville, Texas, Morris was introduced to music at an early age. He and his siblings formed a band during his elementary school years. And Morris sang lead before he could ride a bicycle. When Morris was five, his mother married his stepfather. And the family packed up and relocated to the Windy City's rough and tumble west side. "After crime continued to heighten in the inner-city working class neighborhood, the family was forced to move to the suburbs when Morris was 13 years old. New kids on the block, Morris and his older brother quickly formed a band with a group of neighborhood kids. While making good music was their main objective, they were determined to snatch the glory at the local high school talent show. Unfortunately, during auditions the band was abruptly asked to leave. With lyrics like "take off your underwear and shake your body like a whore,' the song they chose, Prince's "Dance, Music, Sex, Romance," was deemed too raunchy. "It's nuttin like it is now where you see sex on television and you hear it on the radio," he explains. "Back in the day, it was obscene."
After six years preaching the gospel, surviving a broken marriage and enduring the heart felt pain of loves lost, singer-songwriter Morris Mills pours his fears, pains and frustrations into his music with soothing melodies, a calming falsetto and lessons well learned. With a style that borrows from Smokey Robinson, the Chi-lites, Prince, Michael Jackson and GQ, the Chicago Native possesses the natural ability to stir up passion, evoke tears and make club goers dance with an eclectic blend of old school soul, traditional blues and cutting edge Hip Hop.
