Arlyn's Bio

Back from a stint in Europe, Arlyn has emerged this year with a new vision for music, dubbed ‘folk-minimalism’. Taking as its point of departure a modern, conceptual approach to composition, and as its destination the haunting, mysterious atmospheres of folk music, Arlyn draws attention to the life and spirit that seems so present in the music of former times – and consequently is lacking from today’s over-rationalised modernity. His lyrical themes - intellectually mystical poetry - are set against a spread of unique chords and intricate guitar plucking, creating music that stirs both the mind to thought and the spirit to feeling. In a world suffocating in bureaucracy, Arlyn’s music is, to quote www.myspace.com/arlynsolo, “a stream under a mountain of concrete, bearing its witness to the fading of things, in the hope of renewal and of revolution.”
In support of his forthcoming album, ‘The Innocence of Myth’, Arlyn will support none other than Magna Carta on their nationwide tour this September – an interesting match, considering the latter’s memorable role in the 70’s folk revival. Folk-minimalism: bring on the revolution.

Inspiration

Arlyn is a thoughtful acoustic venture into the possibility of a truly modern folk genre.
Drawing from reflections on innocence (and its loss), and the haunting atmospheres that inspire the spirit of folk, a new music has emerged within a modern, conceptual framework.
It is a yearning remembrance of small, unsullied things that died by the hand of rationality and adulthood; a view from the mountain of modern progress at the myth and magic and innocence left to fade slowly with the aging of the world. It is a tying up of the beginning with the end, in the hope of renewal and of revolution.
